Making a difference beyond UWC
Earlier this term, second-year students (and now recent graduates) Paul from the Philippines and Yvonne from Burkina Faso have received two of this year’s GoMakeADifference awards for their project ideas. Starting 2016, the founders of GoMakeADifference have rolled out their UWC-wide program, enabling students from all schools and colleges to apply for one of the 20 grants, each doted at USD 1000.
With her project “Let’s give them power”, Yvonne aims to support a pilot program for unemployed women, in particular widows, in rural areas of Burkina Faso by enabling them to start a career in poultry farming, thus having a regular income and being able to send their children to school. The pilot will run with 8 to 10 women and will start mid-June this year. After returning to the Philippines, Paul will elaborate on a project he started with Quezon City’s department of education during his summer break a year ago: through seminars and workshops led by students and experts, the program aims to promote the three pillars of sustainability among youth in Quezon City. 120 students from 47 high schools will participate in this 4-week program. Good luck to you for your initiatives and congratulations!
